No change in Govt stand on Mhadei, clarifies CM

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has made it very clear that there is no change in the stand of the State Government over Mhadei issue with Karnataka stating that the question of holding bilateral talks to end the imbroglio doesn’t arise.
It may be recalled that yesterday, Karnataka Government issued a press note claiming that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had held discussion with Kamat in New Delhi over the Mhadei row.
Asked on the purported meeting, Goa chief minister who returned from the national capital today said, “there was no specific meeting on the Mhadei issue. I casually met Karnataka CM during the chief ministers’ conference on internal security in New Delhi”.
Karnataka yesterday claimed that Goa CM had “responded positively” to his Karnataka counterpart’s plea to end the long-pending dispute between the two States through talks.
Interestingly, Karnataka’s statement for bilateral talks comes at a time when the Centre has already decided to set up Water Dispute Tribunal to end the long-pending issue. Goa Government which had long been demanding setting up of such a Tribunal, has a strong case, against Karnataka, sources said.
