Two unknown persons attacked a panch member from Old Goa on Friday night. The incident happened less than half a kmfrom the Old Goa police station and the victim's right hand had to be amputated.

Vinayak Phadte, 35, was walking home from his restaurant on Friday at about 11.45 pm when two persons attacked him with rods and some sharp weapon from behind. Police suspect that the attack could be due to some business rivalry as Phadte, who is elected panch member for the first time, was planning to enter the iron ore trading business.
