Glen Barretto: First Goan director of Bollywood

Goa NewsHE DRAWS his inspiration on the art of storytelling from his late mother. The hunger and motivation to excel came from the career and competition success books. If boys and girls of his generation craved to make it big with a degree in medicine and engineering, Glen Barretto swam against the tide to try his luck in the Bollywood industry.

Twenty-two years down the line he is first Goan-born director in the Bollywood industry. But the journey chasing his dreams has not been a path of roses which was laid to him on a platter.
He had to slog for it. The Galgibaga-born Goan has since then donned many hats in the film industry, starting off as an assistant director to finally graduating as a director.

Recalling his sting in the film industry, Glen said that he was fired up with the dream of making it big in the film industry by the films he watched as a boarder at St Anthony High School, Duler Mapusa Goa.

It feels nice to read news when any goan acheives fame anywhere. Glen Barretto has become a bollywood director which is excellent as bollywood is not now only in bollywood but it has gone to hollywood too. Bollywood is in every part of the world. I knew about Glen through his brother John in Gulf(Saudi),but didnt knew the names of the film/s which he directed.He is from Cancona.in late 1980-90s.Proud of Glen being a goan first like we had lot of goan musicians in Indian music since 1960s.

To know that you have achieved something that no Goan has, makes me feel proud. Secondly knowing that you have been a boarder in St. Anthony's Duler, makes me even more proud. I am a neighbour of this school. I have seen many boys come and go from this school. You have scored a high point here. Keep up the good work.
